Update on Argentina
The Argentinian equity market has suffered a dramatic set-back over the last week with many stocks down by over 20%. It is not yet clear what the resolution to the current situation is but I will try and outline why it has happened and what the sign posts are for a positive and negative resolution.
Emerging Markets and the Return of Volatility
After experiencing a closing low in early January, the VIX – which is the common measure of volatility in the US stock market – began a moderate climb towards the end of the month prior to exploding on the upside in early February.
After a difficult period, we believe the outlook for African economies and stock markets has turned positive. In 2017 we highlighted a number of developments that would make African markets more attractive, and pleasingly many of these have come to pass.
